First Gubernatorial Debate Tonight

Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and Republican Tom Foley will debate for the first time tonight in Norwich for a crowd of about 400 people.

There may not be live television coverage, but Connecticut Network said it would try to air it live depending on the signal they’re able to get from the site.

The debate hosted by the Norwich Bulletin starts at 7 p.m. and will last an hour.

Malloy and Foley, who faced each other in 2010, are not unfamiliar foes. They debated each other six times in 2010 and will face each other five or six more times before this year’s November election.

The format of tonight’s debate will be more conversational and not the traditional question and answer format with a limit on how much can be said on each topic. Each candidate will be given 25 minutes to use as they see fit, taking as much or as little time as they feel is necessary to respond to the questions or each other. The two candidates will be seated on stage along with Ray Hackett of the Norwich Bulletin, who will be moderating the debate.

Joe Visconti, the third gubernatorial candidate whose name will be on the ballot in November, won’t be on stage tonight.

The Norwich Bulletin explained that the format for the debate was set prior to Visconti qualifying for the ballot.

It’s unclear if Visconti will be allowed to participate in future debates. Foley has said he has no problem with it.

A video recording of the debate will be available Thursday at NorwichBulletin.com.

Only 400 people!  No TV, No Radio,
only a video recording courtesy of the Norwich Bulletin!  If I were Malloy or Foley I wouldn’t waste my time.  Whatever happened to all 4 major TV networks pre-empting their regularly scheduled programs.  This is a very important election. The majority of voters in this state need to be informed.  Two or three debates at the most is all we need, not five or six.

Does one have to pay the Norwich bulletin to view the video?

This is an important debate. Can’t they get a contract with someone who can actually get the signal? You folks know darn well we’re waiting to hear this debate. How unorganized! Ughhh, oh well, i’ll just watch my favorite channels “Investigative Discovery” or “MSNBC”..

GBear432,

Any bets the question regarding teachers which Jonathan Pelto posed won’t be asked?

Just like I imagined. Malloy creamed Foley in this debate. My strong support for Malloy/Wyman continues. Love you two..Great responses Governor!

Bethy, since you admit you’re in love with Malloy/Wyman maybe you can see how I think you might be a little one sided. I personally felt the debate was a draw. They both made good points on why neither should be Governor.

@Bethy: Are you suffering from hearing problems?  You only hear what Malloy programs you to hear as a loyal Democrat under his control. Foley won the debate, but your best defense is “twisting you political dilemna.”

@MoBoss:  You just gave yoursekf an excuse for not voting on Election Day, but please stick around to see Tom Foley remove Dannel Mzlloy from his undeserved governor’s chair.

QuestionMark and MoBoss..hahahaaaa, it was NOT a “draw”...Malloy “ripped” Foley! I don’t give a “tootie-fruity” what any negative person on this stream says. Our Governor “ripped” Foley to pieces in this debate! It’s very true, your past does determine the outcome of your future. Mr. Foley, your dealings with Bibb and Sprague does raise eyebrows in reference to your leadership for Connecticut. I will not take a chance with you. I’m satisfied with the current leadership (Malloy/Wyman) moving Connecticut forward.  Mr. Foley placed himself on “blast” during the debate. Throughout the entire debate, Foley has shown poor leadership qualities. He fabricated so many times I’ve lost count. I am so proud of Governor Malloy. He had me and my friends in stitches - lighting Facebook and Twitter up.  He kept moving to the edge of his seat, I thought he was going to leap out his chair. That was a prosecutor move all day.  Malloy is funny as heck, but he was very serious. He told the truth and stuck to the “facts”.  Rule No. #1: Mr. Foley, after telling so many fabrications - “never” argue with a former prosecutor! Peace and Blessings

Bethy is a conservative plant, just has to be the case!  ;OP

I think its a win for Foley, and I say that strictly because many thought he would be a deer in the headlights.

After this debate he will be on his own merit without any under-estimating advantage. Hope he continues the prep and maintains discipline as he displayed here. :O)

QuestionMark, I will be voting I always do. I’m just tired of holding my nose while I drop the ballot in the box. Picking the one you dislike least is getting old.

@Moboss: Career politicians will do that to you and adulterate your choice.  These are the people who have left our state and country in bad shape, and use the voter’s for the continual demise of the electorate.  The only work for themselves once they have have conned voters to elect them. I give you credit, you already know you won’t win no matter who you vote for.

Ok Bethy,Judging by how rabid you are about Malloy I think he could have sat there and said nothing and you would have proclaimed that he “ripped” Foley to pieces.
