WWE Gets YouTube To Take Down Footage

WWE wrestling divas take the ring at the Hartford Civic Center in October 2010 during a taping of RAW.

If you’re looking online for some of the older footage of World Wrestling Entertainment, you’re not going to find it.

With it’s former CEO, Linda McMahon, running for the U.S. Senate, the publicly traded company has sought to erase some of its raunchier footage from the early days.

“Some of this footage has been misused in political environments without any context or explanation as to when it was produced. This damages the corporate reputation of our company. WWE is well within its rights to protect its intellectual
property for fair use,” Brian Flynn, senior vice president of marketing and communications for the WWE, said Thursday.

McMahon has described the fictional storylines which are part of the wrestling program as “family-friendly.”

But Democrat backed groups believe it promotes sex and violence and is demeaning toward women.

One of the storylines often raised as an example include McMahon’s husband Vince forcing a wrestler named Trish to take off her clothes, get on her hands and knees and bark like a dog to get back in his good graces.

“For years WWE has produced programming that is rated PG in primetime, and most recently rated G on Saturday mornings,” Flynn said. “To better reflect our current family-friendly brand of entertainment, WWE is removing some dated and edgier footage from digital platforms.”

That includes YouTube videos created by fans and some by McMahon’s political opponents such as Moms Opposing McMahon. The video they compiled now shows television static and says “This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by the WWE.”

But the WWE claims it’s always looking to protect its image, not just in election years.

“Since user generated content is constantly posted, we have an on-going process to protect our intellectual property,” Flynn said.

But it still gave her Democratic opponent Chris Murphy an opening to criticize his opponent.

“This is what Linda McMahon doesn’t want Connecticut voters to see: the sum total of her business experience comes from selling explicit sex and violence to children while laying off 10 percent of her workforce and taking multimillion dollar paydays funded by Connecticut taxpayers,“ Ben Marter, Murphy’s communications director, said Friday.

He argued that even taking down old footage won’t repair McMahon’s image with voters.

“Spending millions of dollars on a political image make-over isn’t going to fool Connecticut families, and Linda McMahon can’t hide from her miserable record of promoting the abusive, demeaning, and degrading treatment of women,“ Marter said. “The question is: is the WWE now coordinating with McMahon to cover up her embarrassing past?”

The McMahon campaign and the WWE said there’s no merit to the coordination claim.

Are we surprised!!!

It was not more then two years ago that Linda McMahon tried to buy a CT Senate seat by smearing Dick Blumenthal and trying to hide her past. That did not work.

Yes, the voters have short memories but let us remind ourselves who Linda McMahon really is.

Along with her husband Vince (Where is he?), Linda McMahon built an entertainment company, Worldwide Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), that markets in sex , mental cruelty and physical violence. She actually had the temerity to go on cable television and defend it by saying that it was “family entertainment”, which her host (Bill O’Reilly) disagreed with vehemently. The enormous amount of blood money she and her husband made appealing to the lowest common denominator is now financing her second run for the Senate. Her strategy of distortion of the truth and lies are not surprising given her past.

The latest tactic is to file a bogus ethics complaint which will not be acted upon until after the election against Chris Murphy because the press is not holding him accountable according to her “standards”.  If this tactic were not so pathetic, it would be laughable. Ethics?! Since when had that stopped McMahon in building WWE with questionable drug use (steroids), verbal and physical abuse, and sex.

Murphy has done good work on healthcare issues on the both the state and federal levels and has worked and learned about the mid-east by traveling to Iraq multiple number of times to determine both the impact and progress of our involvement. I refuse to believe anything Linda McMahon says about his attendance at meetings or his votes about cutting the defense budget. Given her background, Ms. McMahon’s version of the truth is highly suspect.

The press needs to do its job and show her for who she really is……a snake oil salesman and marketer in moral depravity, who is hoping the voters of CT have a very short memory.
Let’s hope they hold her and the WWE accountable!!

A Couple Notes to Marter and Murphy:
1. You need to get on line and look at explicit sex and get a grip on the both the definition and the demos. It appears you boys missed sex education class and need a primer.

2. You show us yours, and I’m happy to call on Linda to show us hers ... again. I’m referring to the loan documents and credit scores that so justified a special Webster loan for a a Congressman with bad credit. You show us the documents, I’ll call on Linda to repost the videos of all the non-explicit sex.

“No matter where you go, you are what you are player
And you can try to change but that’s just the top layer
Man, you was who you was ‘fore you got here…”

Jay-Z, “Public Service Announcement”

That’s Linda McMahon. We all know how you made your money. Your pretty blue suits today don’t cover anything up.

So… we’re all supposed to believe it was just a silly coincidence that WWE decided to take down “dated and edgier” footage NOW, while Linda is running for Senate? Gimme a break!

A few years from now the person who created the “Lingerie Football League” will run for public office, and when he/she is criticized, they will feign shock and ignorance. Just like Linda.

BTW, thanks for the two full-color 11x17 Murphy mailers in my mailbox today, on topics that have already been proven to be lies.

You may hate the environmentment, Linda, by killing all those trees, but I’m recycling your mailers along with all my other hosuehold trash.

Linda could spend $50 million five times over and still would be unable to scrub the internet these damning videos.

That’s right, NoNonsense2012. No “coordinated” activities here on the part of the McMahon campaign and the WWE corporation, right?

BS.

I’d say the Murphy campaign should file a complaint…

Waa waa waa…The left crying over WWE pulling videos. This is an issue, really. What about taxes, unemployment, our out of control debt in the country. Yet this is where your outrage goes towards. People are just so out of touch on here and should be ashamed by the phony outrage by some.

It is about the economy people not this other stuff.
