I never thought I would be writing this, but the time has come for me to leave the news industry.

I am incredibly proud of my 23-year career, which started as an intern at The Hartford Courant and will end at CTNewsJunkie.com.

I am so proud of what Doug Hardy and I have built over the past 18 years together and I know he will succeed at ushering in a new group of reporters to do the important work of bringing Connecticut residents the truth about their government.

When I think back on my career, what I remember the most is the relationships that I’ve built and the people who brought me into their homes or gave me a glimpse of their lives in order to make sure that the lives of others are better.

It is a bittersweet moment, but it’s time to pass the torch to a new generation of truth tellers who will carry on the traditions of gathering and disseminating information. While there’s a lot of competition for everyone’s attention these days I believe there’s still room for scrappy reporting and I truly believe that’s something people will support with their wallet.

True journalism is about conversations that inform and entertain and I believe with all my heart that it will muscle its way through the noise of social media and AI to prevail because our democracy depends on it. There’s no one more capable of leading the site through that transition than Doug. A true visionary in the field of independent journalism, I can’t thank him enough for all the ways in which he helped grow the site’s traffic and revenue over the years. There is no one more dedicated to the cause of independent journalism than Doug.

As I step away, I will make sure to put my money where my mouth is and while I won’t own the news site any longer, I will be a supporter.
