Senate Passes Renewable Energy Bill

Christine Stuart photo (Updated 8:30 p.m.) The Senate gave its approval Wednesday to a bill that will codify how the state purchases renewable energy by maintaining a goal of buying 20 percent by 2020. But it wasn’t the goal of cleaner energy that had environmentalists concerned — it was the type of energy that would count toward that goal.

Esty Returns NU Donations

A day after her husband was criticized for holding a conference call that included investment bankers with an interest in Northeast Utilities, the National Republican Congressional Committee called upon U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty to return $3,500 in campaign contributions from Northeast Utility executives and lobbyists.

Mass. Lawmaker Takes A Stand Against CT Generation Tax

Regulators Urged Not To Pass Storm Costs Onto CL&P Ratepayers

CTNJ file photo Last week, Connecticut Light & Power officials asked regulators to allow them to increase their rates to recover $414 million for five major storms over the last two years, including Tropical Storm Irene and the October 2011 snow storm, which caused power outages that lasted more than a week for some customers and led to widespread criticism of the utility.
