The community gathered at St. John’s Church in Waterbury to discuss the merger of Waterbury Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital. Texas-based LHP Hospital Group is looking to buy and merge both hospitals.

There is a new labor/community coalition being formed around the the purchase and merger of the two hospitals, which has raised some questions for the community.

Will access to affordable health care for all Waterbury residents be improved, or will it diminish?

Will the hospitals’ employees be able to maintain their union jobs, benefits, and the standard of living they provide for their families?

Can LHP adhere to an enforceable “community benefits” program for the city by including the community in its decisions?
