Kathleen Kiley Photo A retiring Connecticut police officer is trading one stressful job for possibly another, farming.

An accident in 2001, resulting in a neck injury and surgeries, left officer Philip Pane wondering if he would be able to continue his work. After nearly 29 years on the Monroe police force, he was faced with a tough decision of what to do with the rest of his life after he left the police force.

“I had herniated my disks and had two neck surgeries, so it was iffy that I would go back to work,” he says. “So I started toying around with what I could do for work.”

His wife Lisa had inherited an old dairy farm from her grandfather, who retired from dairy farming in 1966. The land had been fallow for decades and the old farmhouse and barns were falling apart. “So we gutted the house and that’s how it began,” he says.
