CTNJ file photo Tom Foley, the Republican gubernatorial candidate in 2010, opined Sunday morning on “Face the State,” that Republican Party Chairman Chris Healy would step down and not seek re-election in June.

He said the Republican party failed this year to get one Republican elected to Congress and statewide office. He said the party needs new, younger leadership.

But Foley was careful not to say he was asking Healy to step down from his position. The election of chairman will happen in June.

Foley said if Healy does step down he’d urge his campaign manager Justin Clark, a lawyer and Republican from West Hartford, to seek the nomination.

Reached Sunday for comment, Healy said he’s not even thinking about re-election.

“Our efforts are focused on electing Republicans on February 22nd and the Connecticut Republican Party is supporting our eight candidates with money, volunteers and technical advise,” Healy said. “Also, we are ready to respond to Gov. Malloy’s big tax increase budget should be the priorities of every Republican. The election for officers is in June and we have plenty of time to worry about that later.”

Chris Healy’s pending departure is “etched in stone.” It’s too early to guess who will replace him.

Well I’m sure he is still bitter about Healy’s inability to get out the vote for Foley. I’m sure Foley would do a good job as GOP Chairman, but he’s already planning for 2014 (for some reason).
