Josalee Thrift file photo Young Republicans will have an opportunity to redeem themselves Thursday when they meet the Young Democrats in the second annual charity softball event.

Last year, the Republicans built an early lead and had the Democrats on the defensive for the first six innings. But the Democrats, who hold the majority in the legislature, were only able to get five more runs in the eighth and ninth to tie the game and force a 10th inning on their way to a 15-14 win.

Capitol reporters Susan Haigh of the Associated Press, Ken Dixon of the Connecticut Post, Daniela Altimari of the Hartford Courant, Christine Stuart of CTNewsjunkie, and nonpartisan staffers Neil Ayers and Robert Wysock, will be umpiring and keeping all the players honest.

The game starts at 6 p.m. at Fusco Field at Mill Woods Park in Wethersfield.

The suggested donation is $20 and all proceeds will benefit the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.
