Kennedy Jr. To Speak In Bridgeport

Ted Kennedy Jr. of Branford will be the featured speaker next week at an event honoring the legacy of his uncle, the 35th president of the United States.

The dinner hosted at Testo’s Restaurant, owned and operated by Mario Testa, the Bridgeport Democratic town chairman, will include the presentation of the JFK Legacy Award.

It’s unclear if Kennedy, Jr., rumored to be interested in retiring U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman’s seat, will have any announcement to make about a possible campaign.

In 2010 he injected himself into the U.S. Senate campaign for former U.S. Sen. Chris Dodd’s seat when he sent a letter to Republican candidate Linda McMahon asking her to remove a web ad of an Aug. 13, 1963 address given by his uncle, the assassinated president.

McMahon’s campaign was using the footage of John F. Kennedy in a web ad to show the wisdom of a tax cut, but Kennedy’s nephew called it “dishonest” and said it “distorts the legacy of President Kennedy.”

Kennedy Jr. also filmed a campaign advertisement in 2010 for gubernatorial candidate, Ned Lamont, who lost the Democratic primary in August. Last week Kennedy Jr. was spotted having lunch with Dodd, one of the late-Sen. Edward “Teddy” Kennedy’s best friend. Dodd retired from the U.S. Senate this January after deciding more than a year ago not to seek re-election.

Kennedy, Jr. is the co-founder of The Marwood Group, a healthcare advisory and financial services firm headquartered in New York City.
