Christine Stuart photo Democrat Dan Malloy leads Republican Tom Foley by 15 percentage points in the first post-primary poll conducted by Rasmussen Reports.

The telephone survey of 500 likely voters shows Malloy with 48 percent of the vote and Foley with 33 percent of the vote. Six percent prefer another candidate, and 13 percent are undecided.

Unaffiliated voters, who outnumber both Democrats and Republicans, prefer Malloy by a 36 percent to 27 percent margin. However, 21 percent of unaffiliated voters are undecided at this point, and another 16 percent prefer some other candidate.

According to the pollsters the gubernatorial race now shifts from “lean Democrat” to “solid Democrat.”

Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell who is not running for re-election had a 65 percent favorability rating, which is up 12 points from June.  Thirty-five percent disapprove of her job performance.

The poll has a 4.5 percent margin of error.
