Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said Wednesday that Connecticut will be able to weather a federal government shutdown for two to three weeks without any disruptions.
He questioned, however, the state’s ability to navigate a longer-term shut down and ordered contingency plans developed in the event that occurs.
In order to ensure continuity, Malloy asked his state agency heads to submit initial assessments on programs, services, operations, and employees. He also received input from the Office of the Treasurer and Office of State Comptroller.
“Nobody wants the Federal Government to shut down, but it’s a real reminder that there are consequences if the political gamesmanship in Washington doesn’t end soon,” said Malloy. “Connecticut residents won’t notice a disruption in services or operations for a temporary shutdown, but anything longer than three weeks, and there is a real concern about our ability to continue to deliver vital state services.”

Glad to see this being reported. I would love to see CTN report on how it could affect us after three weeks, or press Malloy for more details on that.
Too many national pundits discuss the purely political results of a shutdown, how it could hurt or help elections, etc. and fail to consider (or at least properly report) where in the country the effects will be felt the soonest, and in which areas of those state government.
