Christine Stuart photo Democratic gubernatorial nominee Dan Malloy asked the Connecticut AFL-CIO for its endorsement Monday following his primary victory over Ned Lamont.

“We need to come together,“ Malloy said. “We have a lot of work to do.“

After calling Lamont a “noble opponent,“ Malloy talked about how labor needs to come together to elect the first Democratic governor in more than 20 years. He said Tuesday’s victory will “mean nothing at all if we don’t elect a Democrat.”

Malloy said his campaign will be based on values, experience, and trust.

“What individual? What party do we trust to be leaders in these difficult times,” Malloy said.

Asked about if he is blinded by the labor support he received prior to the convention, Malloy responded by saying, “From time to time I am going to remind you that I ran with some labor support, but not monolithic support.”

“I had more support than I did four years ago, because I almost had none. These are different times,” Malloy said to reporters. Click the play arrow to watch more of the post-speech press conference.

Malloy’s Republican opponent Tom Foley will address the gathering of labor members later this afternoon.
