Nonprofit Liaison To Depart Next Month

Nonprofit Liaison Deb Heinrich will be leaving her post in March, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s office announced Friday.
Malloy appointed Heinrich, a former Democatic state representative, to the cabinet level position he established a day before he was sworn in as governor. Over the past year Heinrich has served as an advocate for nonprofit providers.
“I am extremely grateful to Deb for her commitment and service to the state,” Malloy said in a statement. “Connecticut’s nonprofits play an important role in our quality of life in Connecticut, and Deb’s work has been particularly instrumental in opening dialogue and improving our relationship with nonprofit community providers.”
Malloy said Heinrich helped find efficiencies and cost saving strategies to maintain the social safety net in spite of the $3.5 billion deficit the administration inherited last year.
“I deeply appreciate Governor Malloy’s support of the nonprofit community, and am honored to have served as the state’s first Nonprofit Liaison,” Heinrich said. “The governor truly values the state’s relationship with these organizations that are on the frontlines in getting programs and services to residents. This relationship has been strengthened and broadened through our work this year. I am grateful for the opportunity to have continued my service to the people of Connecticut.”
Heinrich served three terms in the House representing Madison and Guilford. She was re-elected for a fourth term but accepted Malloy’s appointment instead of taking the oath of office last January.
According to a press release, Heinrich had agreed to serve for one year as the first Nonprofit Liaison. A new one will be appointed in the coming months.
In 2007, Heinrich received both the Connecticut Association of Nonprofits Legislative Award and the Connecticut Community Providers Legislative Award for her efforts, the statement said.
