Thirty years after the first AIDS diagnosis, AIDS and HIV are still an epidemic and still there’s no cure.

Brian Scott-Smith talks with Norwich author John-Manuel Andriote about his decision to update and republish his 1999 book, “Victory Deferred: How AIDS Changed Gay Life In America.”

Andriote, a Norwich resident, chronicles the impact of the disease and picks up where Randy Shilts, who authored “And The Band Played On,” left off before dying of complications from AIDS in 1994.

A former Washington Post reporter, Andriote, used his reporting skills to pull together interviews with those at the forefront of the medical, political, cultural, civic, and national responses to the epidemic. The newly revised book is written from a slightly different perspective, since Andriote was diagnosed himself in 2005.
