Professional Services Firm Gets State Assistance To Expand

Professional services firm Deloitte will be the next company to receive state assistance under the “First Five” program, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced Wednesday. It will receive between $9 million and $14.5 million in grants for creating 200 - 500 jobs over six years.
The company plans to add jobs at its Hartford, Stamford and Wilton locations, where it currently employs 1,153 people. In order to receive the financial assistance package from the Department of Economic and Community Development, Deloitte will also have to retain all of its current positions, according to a press release from Malloy’s office.
Deloitte will receive $9 million if it retains its current jobs and creates 200 more by the end of next year. If the company keeps those added jobs and creates another 150 by the end of 2018 it will get another $2.5 million. If by the end of that same period it adds 300 jobs instead of 150, it will get $5.5 million.
“The First Five program is about jobs, and about making Connecticut competitive again,” Malloy said in a statement. “By securing a company like Deloitte, we are not only creating good paying jobs with good benefits in our state, we’re making our state a better place to do business.”
Deloitte assists industry customers with financial, audit and tax advice. According to the governor’s office, it’s the largest company of its kind in the U.S. It recorded $11.94 billion in U.S. revenues in the fiscal year ending May 28, 2011 and currently has 100 offices nationally.
Henry Phillips, Deloitte’s northeast regional managing partner, said the company was pleased to be expanding in Connecticut under the governor’s corporate assistance program.
“Deloitte’s vision to grow the local economy is supported by the governor – through a commitment to our clients, giving back to the communities in which we live and work, and developing and investing in our people,” Phillips said.
DECD Commissioner Catherine Smith said that, like her agency, Deloitte works to help businesses.
“Its 51,000 people in more than 90 cities across the country all have one goal: supplying clients with the services, resources and information they need to be more competitive,” Smith said.
