The controversial grassroots organization headed by former District of Columbia schools chancellor Michelle Rhee, a proponent of linking teacher pay to student performance, started airing a new television commercial in Connecticut this week.
The commercial features parents talking about the importance of a good education for their children and it urges lawmakers not to listen to the special interests when it comes to education reform.
“Connecticut schools are falling behind and special interests are fighting to keep the status quo, but there’s hope. Parents support Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s education reform plan. It gives schools more freedom to put great teachers in every classroom and provides fairer funding,” the voiceover in the 30-second spot says.
The commercial comes after the Education Committee changed several components of Gov.Malloy’s education reform proposal, including tying the new evaluation to tenure into a study.

This is a paid political advertisement that seeks to influence public opinion against so-called special interests.
In this case, however, the special interests are the teachers, and those who advocate for them, who serve Ct. children day-in and day-out, year after year.
If Ct. citizens really do not appreciate the efforts of their chidren’s teachers, then by all means join the real special interest witchhunt.
