Top Health Care Adviser Leaves

Jeanette DeJesus, the administration’s special adviser on health reform and director of the Office Health Reform and Innovation, will be leaving state government, according to Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s office.

Her departure will leave the position created just two years ago vacant.

Malloy’s spokesman, Andrew Doba, said the administration has no immediate plans to replace her.

The Office Health Reform and Innovation was created by legislation passed in June 2011 to coordinate the state’s responsibilities under federal health care reform and implement the health exchange board. With those structure’s now in place, Doba said it isn’t necessary to fill the position.

DeJesus said she was comfortable leaving the post given the progress the state has made implementing health reform, the health insurance exchange and other policies.

“For the past two years, Jeannette has worked closely with our administration on finding smart, strategic, and cost-effective ways to implement federal health care reform in Connecticut, with the goal of increasing affordability and access,” Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said in a press release. 

Malloy said Connecticut has become a leader in implementing the Affordable Care Act under DeJesus’ leadership.

“While we understand why she is seizing this new opportunity, her contributions to the state will long pay dividends,” he said.

In January, DeJesus will take a job as senior vice president of Wheeler Clinic, Inc.
