The Tuesday following the Memorial Day holiday will be full of activities and since we decided to give Melissa Ozols one more day off from the Morning Coffee & Politics email the following is a brief description of what’s happening.

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will be visiting the state. First he will appear in New Haven with U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro and local officials around 10:30 a.m. before heading to Hartford for a private meeting with college presidents. Then it’s onto a press conference at the Capitol with Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and Education Commissioner Stefan Pryor where he will make an announcement. Meanwhile, Dan Roberti, the third Democrat vying for the nomination in the 5th Congressional District, will appear on WNPR’s “Where We Live” program with host John Dankosky. U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy and U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal will unveil their 2nd annual survey of Connecticut manufactuers 10:30 a.m. at the Manufacturing Alliance of Connecticut, 173 Interstate Lane, Waterbury. Also for those still following the education and teacher evaluation process closely the Performance Evaluation Advisory Council’s Teacher Evaluation Working Group will be meeting 9 a.m. to noon at the Capitol Region Education Council, 111 Charter Oak Avenue, Hartford. The PEAC meeting will be held 1 p.m. at the State Department of Education building, 165 Capitol Avenue, Hartford.

Also 7 p.m.  tonight at Windsor’s Union Street Tavern lawmakers and organizers talk about how they were able to successfully abolish the death penalty.
