Republicans running for Connecticut’s open U.S. Senate seat took heart in a fellow Republican’s upset victory in Massachusetts, while frontrunning Democrat Richard Blumenthal vowed to press the same anti-Washington status quo message in his own campaign.

“The lesson of Massachusetts is the need to listen to voters and to campaign aggressively—and I will continue to do both,” Blumenthal said Wednesday.

“This result shows people are angry and frustrated with Washington D.C. and they should be.  I understand that people want change in Washington.  I will be going to every corner of Connecticut listening to people and showing that I will fight for them tenaciously and tirelessly everyday and working hard to earn their support and trust as I have done as Attorney General.”

Blumenthal who enjoys high poll ratings and bests all three Republican candidates doesn’t want to make the same mistakes as Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley did.

Blumenthal’s Republican challengers agree that Tuesday’s vote was a vote against Washington’s politics and policies and are taking comfort in the upset, which gives them hopes for their own campaigns.

“Tonight’s election was a referendum on Washington’s failed economic policies that have produced record budget deficits, historic debt levels and double-digit unemployment,“ Linda McMahon, one of the Republican candidate’s running for U.S. Sen. Chris Dodd’s seat, said Tuesday night.

“Scott Brown is only the beginning,“ Linda McMahon said Tuesday night. “The people are just warming up.”

Former U.S. Rep. Rob Simmons, another Republican seeking the nomination, said Tuesday’s vote should serve as a message to Democratic voters across the nation and particularly in the Northeast.

“Voters of all political stripes have rejected their party’s agenda of reckless spending and mounting federal debt, unseemly sweetheart deals for special interests, and weakness in the face of the terrorist threat, all of which has done little to put our nation back to work or keep us safe,” Simmons said Tuesday night.

“Tonight’s stunning, come from behind win by Scott Brown, over a heavily favored attorney general, is a clear sign that Americans of all political persuasions are not going to be taken for granted, and are ready to fight to take back their freedoms,” Peter Schiff, another Republican candidate for Senate said in a statement Wednesday. “Senator-elect Brown did not compromise his values, and will stand up for families who are struggling every day to stay in their homes and pay their bills. “

Please don’t insult our intelligence . . . Its TOO LATE Blummy . . . can’t change yer spots after 20 years . . you are the STATUS of status-quo for filing lawsuits against public opinion and costing the state millions of dollars. 24.5 million emminent domain loss in 2009 . . . can’t make that up by next election . .sounds like jumping the AG ship

Funny thing is not one news station conducted exit polls in Mass. to ask people why they were voting.
Thats right not ABC, NBC, CBS not FOX not CNN.
Yet everyone apparently knows what was in their minds on that day.
Well I for one was in Mass. on election day and was knocking on doors asking some of those questions.
On the health care issue it was pretty split with some saying they were mad at the plan and others saying they were upset by pace to passage.
Others were mad at local Dems, seeing the ex speaker is due in court on corruption charges and 3 state senators
were under indictment.
others were incensed that health care was taking a year while unemployment outside of Boston is hovering between 11% and 12%. Still other didnt understyand what all the hoopla was about stating the obvious that the state is made up of more than 50% independents and has a history of electing Dem congressman but also has elected Rep. Governors for 20 of the last 22 years.
And still others said Coakly was a horrible candidate who shouldnt be elected.
Will the Dems loose some seats in November?
History says yes.
How many?
Based on how lowly the public thinks of the Republican brand now adays my guess would be not as many as they hoped for.

Yes the polls show UNfavorable for BOTH parties . . . BUT . . . 26% for dems (the lowest in the history of polling) while Gop 37% but dems are on the wrong side of public opinion and have gone unscutinized . .so its ONLY DOWN for the DEMS

Gee richard the polls I see still show the Dems at a higher rate than Republicans and that republican # you show is pure fiction.
They havent seen 37 in about 7 or 8 years.
And i love how you yell about BOTH parties yet all the advertising on your web site is from right wing republican groups. I also noted on your blogs you guys seem to like the supreme court ruling allowing our government to be taken over by corporate america.
Did you stop to think that CITGO a US based corporation owned by the Venezualian government may allow Hugo Chavez to buy the US congress?
Not to mention corporations with ties to communist China, Russia and the countries were terrorists run free like Saudi arabia.
Watch what you wish for. LOL

The 37 % for the GOP is actaully a CNN poll which skews dem (about 5-6 less than others)  but also shows them the other day dropping 3% to 34% . . .  the dems is a Mason-Dixon poll .. .  the reason for pointing out what you call Yelling is that the left side of the news you can get anywhere, all the time . . .  just trying to give both sides of a story equal time very hard to do

Just checked CNN web site clicked in for poll historys and STILL no 37%
please check you figures again and please no mason dixon they had McCain winning in 08.
The credibility factor there is low.
As for the yelling factor you are so funny just look at this state The Hartford courant -owned by the right wing Chicago tribune
The JI -Right wing
The Waterbury Republican - 4 degrees to the right of Faux news.
Please tell me were the liberal media is I have been looking for them LOL
The real funny story is in a state with tons of right wing media the Dems continue to get elected.
Maybe if we make higher education so exspensive even people from CT cant send their kids to college, Ct will finally be dumb enough to go republican LOL

Also richie I was surprised to see one of the biggest backers of the tea party in CT is a motorcycle gang!
Sorry pal not for me or my family values, but I guess teabaggers are on a slightly lower rung when it comes to values.

WOW you got some “dinasaur” stereo-typical views my man smile I guess you have not been on common Harley Bike-runs for Make a Wish and Childrens Wish, Toys for Tots. The tribune has not been conserv since the 70’s . . and I used a dem site poll on the gop while a gop poll on the dems (can’t get any 2-sided than that)    anyway I think we are getting off track here a little . . . are you for AG B and his taking on lawsuits like a drunken sailor with our $$. This is not about gop vs dem . . . this is who’s offices and individuals do you think was responsible for the spending that caused the need for a STATE INCOME TAX? the aforementioned 24.5 emminant-domain loss. why are we the # 1 in debt per every man-woman & child while the richest. Higher than CA & MASS. Do a precise unbiased audit of the AG’s office and you will see dems and gops come and go in CT . . but our AG has been a consistent reckless spender thats why our education costs as well as everything is insanely outta whack . . and you sound like you want to promote from within smile from a man whose hand has never been off of the people of CT’s cookie jar . .. best of luck CT Jim

Gee Richie,
you dont want me to stereo type a motorcycle gang but your buddies have been slammin ACORN for months and this organization for decades has provided services to the poorest of poor but that didnt stop you guys from setting them up in some stupid sting.
But there is light at the end of the tunnel, those same people are now in jail arrested on FEDERAL FELONY charges in La. for posing as telephone repairman in a US Senators office.
One of these guys FATHER is a federal prosecutor appointed by Bush in La.
This is only going to get better.
It looks like another illegal wire tapping operation carried out by the GOP.
Dont you guys remember Watergate???

You are still WELL OFF “CENTER” CT JUM . . .  LOL . . . everyone has been slamming ACORN . . . if you want to take their side, best of luck but you got a lifetime battle there.

Anyway back to starting point this is “supposed” to ba “ALL” about AG B and senate race ANSWER ME THIS on a scale of 1-10 do you think he is a reckless spender and WHY? based on his legal actions / results . . and you liberals love to change the subject when ya don’t like the topic . . . all the best and do ua know anyone personally IN CT that has been sued by AG
