What’s Your Thanksgiving Tradition?

On Thanksgiving morning I wake earlier than usual and stumble my way down to the kitchen to start cooking the candied bacon, baked brie, and green bean casserole—my contribution to the Thanksgiving feast.
While I’m cooking its become a tradition to watch WKRP in Cincinnati’s “Turkeys Away” episode, which always puts a smile on my face and for whatever reason never gets old. Then it’s time to call my parents and make sure my father has turned on the oven. Yes, one year he forgot and it was a very late dinner. Needless to say, it’s a Thanksgiving he will never live down. This year I’m thinking about calling them using Skype, so I can actually see if they remembered to turn on the oven.
Then it’s time to hit the road. By late afternoon I will be surrounded by family and friends giving thanks for all the gifts I have been given.
I’m especially thankful for our columnists, reporters, contributors, and most importantly readers like you. For the past five years I have been honored to report what’s going on at the state Capitol and beyond. Every day I’m grateful I get to do what I do and I can’t thank you enough for making it possible.
Have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving and please use the comment section below to share your Thanksgiving Day traditions with us.

I’ve been making it a tradition to do the Manchester Road Race the past 3 years, and hope to keep it going for many more. Otherwise, my mother has made delicious creamed onions every year no matter which of our relatives we go to.
A great time overall. Have a Happy Thanksgiving (to all CTNewsJunkie users, writers, and supporters).

LOL! I love your tradition! Listening to Alice’s Restaurant Massacree Movement is a tradition here, and the last couple of years I’ve been posting this wonderfully cranky essay by Bill Kauffman on the history of how we arrived at the date we celebrate Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours - and thanks for the great work you do!

New tradition: Wearing my Ron Francis jersey for the race. Next years additional tradition: Speakers in my camelbak playing Brass Bonanza throughout the race.
And it is never truly Thanksgiving unless you play Alice’s Restaurant at least once.

Paddle tennis on T-Day eve until 3am an touch football pick-up game at high school on Thanksgiving.
Then: Advil and an empty promise to myself to get in better shape. This is followed by the unreasonable goal of running the Manchester Road Race “next year.”

We go around the table and everyone has to give at least one reason why they’re thankful this year. My late grandmother started the tradition when we had Thanksgiving in her barn in Scarsdale. The turkey was always lukewarm and we had to um…do the unmentionables in an unheated outhouse. These days, Awesome Boyfriend and I merge family traditions - we cook his father’s Thompson Turkey recipe, which takes all day but is worth the effort and have my Mom’s chiffon pumpkin pie (made of awesome).
