DeLauro Takes on Shays For Palin Comments

U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-3, is taking on U.S. Rep. Chris Shays, R-4, for his comments on MSNBC Wednesday night after Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s big speech.

Click the play arrow above to watch the interview. In a statement released Friday DeLauro said Shays’ comments in the interview were “demeaning to women.”

In the statement sent out by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, DeLauro shot back at Shays by saying, “Chris Shays’ statement about Sarah Palin and Connecticut voters is demeaning to women.”

“Governor Palin is opposed to a women’s right to choose, equal pay for women, favors Bush’s economic policies, and McCain’s health care plan which would tax health benefits. To believe that women are titillated by the idea of a woman candidate ignores their critical need for change and is an insult,” DeLauro said.

During the interview Andrea Mitchell asked Shays if Palin is in touch with the women in his district regarding the issue of a woman’s right to choose. “She’s not in sync with that,” Shays said. “But she is a woman running. You know, not all women are pro-choice.”

Shays went onto say that “it’s a woman who should be selected not a particular type of woman.” Mitchell proceeded to ask him if Palin on the ticket will help in his race: “I think she’s awesome,” Shays responded.

DeLauro said more about this yesterday at a rally in Hamden. Watch that video too.

I dont see why white women in America are trying to compare themselves to Palin. If YOUR daughter was pregnant in high school, she would still be labeled a whore! Remember, SHE is a Politician AND an actress. All of America will not be judged as "lightly" as Palin has been. When her glamour wears off, and more people die in Iraq, gas prices go to $6.00/gal., Milk $6.00/gal.YOUR kid gets pregnant at 16, you lose your job and you cant afford to go to the dr., Palin wont be your hero anymore.REMEMBER: The Republicans got us in the financial state we are in today! How many people do you know who have lost theyre homes? Dont let superstardom, clever speeches, and fancy magazine covers influence your decision about government! Sound familiar? When the smoke clears, McCain and Palin are still Republicans. Republicans just do not deserve another 4 years in office, period. I wish there was a law against any Political Party running for President after ruining the economy!
