Democratic Lawmakers Map Rell’s Budget Cuts

Late Friday afternoon Democratic lawmakers unveiled their latest publicity effort to garner public support to restore Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell’s proposed budget cuts. Earlier this week Rell sent this email to lawmakers asking them to go over her proposal and let their leadership know which spending cuts they find unacceptable.

The Democrats interactive Google map of Connecticut highlights Rell’s proposed budget cuts and how they would affect every town and city across the state. Click here to view the interactive map.

“We need to make cuts, as Democrats already have, but we must also make investments in health care, education, public safety, transportation, and other critical needs for our families,” said Sen. President Donald Williams, D-Brooklyn, said in a press release.

Democratic lawmakers have proposed more than $2.4 billion in cuts and $3.3 billion in tax increases. Rell has proposed no tax increases, about $3.85 billion in cuts, and $300 million in fee increases. Rell also uses about $3.4 billion in federal stimulus funds and other one-time sources of revenue to balance the budget for the next two years.

Publicity stunt?

Perhaps.

Accurate and useful?

(yes - unless anyone has legitimately questioned it . . .)

fair enough, iblog, the word "stunt" may carry a value judgment for some people so I changed it to "effort."

How about a map of the democrat tax increases. My guess the whole state would light up and be blinking.

I'm glad to see the cuts are spread across the state as they should be. I agree with Bill - the Democratic tax increases would not only light up the whole state, it will be blinking orange for get fast, we're ready to implode.
