Growing Connecticut’s Future

A coalition of business, education, and community organizations will be holding a series of town meetings and panel discussions across the state to talk about the importance of education and how it’s tied to Connecticut’s future economic-wellbeing.

“How do we get parents and members of the community to understand that without an educated citizenry there are no jobs?” Dr. David Carter, chancellor of the Connecticut State University System, said Monday at a press conference promoting the meetings. “Learning can be fun, but must be vigorous.”

Joe Brennan, senior vice president of public policy for the Connecticut Business and Industry Association, said Monday that flat test scores and a widening achievement gap, worries business and industry leaders in the state. “We need the dialogue to start so we can solve some of these problems,” he said.

The first meeting will be held today at Western Connecticut State University in Warner Hall, the second will be held on Tuesday, March 25 at Central Connecticut State University in the Vance Academic Center, the third will be held Monday, March 31 at Eastern Connecticut State University in the Student Center, and the last will be held on Tuesday, April 1 at Southern Connecticut State University in the Adanti Student Center.

All four of the meetings will begin at 6:30 p.m. and portions will be taped for broadcast on CPTV.
