New Towing Probe Sought

Pressure mounted on the city’s scandal- plagued car-towing system, as two groups of aldermen called for another probe and City Hall weighed whether to remove a company from its towing list.

City Hall suspended its feared “Plate Finder” program last week after the Independent reported that a marshal called off a tow of a vehicle owned by the Rev. Boise Kimber, a pal of the mayor. The Plate Finder identifies cars whose owners owe back taxes or parking tickets, so companies can tow them away.

In Springfield Mass a towing company has or had most of the city's and surrounding towns business.

It was known to be a mob enterprise. The towing company got inflated rates, cars were impounded, stored, fees mounted up, and cars were then auctioned off.

I know of a similar racket going on in East Windsor, CT. Cops can get cars almost free, or free, as a kickback.

If there are no bid contracts and if Connecticut judges are buying bonds to finance a public project where there is a ridiculous return on money lent, it stinks of Connecticut mob too.
