Here's an internal Hartford Courant email detailing two more departures in the newsroom:

Folks,

Two pillars of The Courant's newsroom, Lynne Tuohy and Michael Regan, are leaving under the voluntary buyout program.

Lynne has distinguished herself and us regularly in her 23 years here. Her court coverage has set the standard -- in its deep sourcing, its aggressive reporting and its clear and powerful writing. And she has ventured far from the courtroom to deliver memorable tales -- last Sunday's story of a man with dual identities being the latest example. The reverberations of her work with Lisa on Haven Healthcare will be felt for some time to come. Beyond the newsroom, Lynne has been a model of public service in such diverse areas as supporting The Courant's charitable endeavors and helping the court system and the press better deal with each other.

Michael, in 37 years, has had his hands on much of the most significant work this paper has done. And they are gifted hands. As an editor, Michael challenged and polished the toughest stories. Stories that were in the end, both brilliant and bullet proof. Michael's knowledge, his analytical mind and his commitment to excellence were demonstrated over and over again, but perhaps in no case more significantly than the coverage that led to the resignation of Gov. Rowland. Night after night he shepherded difficult stories, often accusatory stories based on anonymous sources, into print, without a misstep. The Courant and the public could not have been better served.

In addition to being Lynne Tuohy and Michael Regan, they are to us, the couple of Lynne and Michael; we will miss them separately, jointly, professionally and personally.

They will be here through March 28. Please join me in wishing them well in the adventures ahead.

Cliff

This is terrible, terrible news. Lynne and Michael are wonderful, talented, remarkable reporters with years of experience. This is a huge loss to the community. The Courant is making a terrible mistake letting them go. Will this bloodletting never end?
