Deck Chairs Could Shuffle with Dodd as VP

Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, a supporter of Sen. Hillary Clinton’s bid for the presidency, said Friday at a press conference that if he was advising Sen. Barack Obama, he “would urge him to make Chris Dodd his vice president.”
The Associated Press has reported that Obama’s presidential campaign has requested information from Dodd as part of its search for a possible vice presidential candidate.
“In Connecticut we have a saying, ‘In Dodd We Trust,’” Blumenthal said.
Asked if he would be interested in running for Dodd’s U.S. Senate seat, Blumenthal said, “Of course I have an interest in the senate seat.” Blumenthal then explain that he doesn’t think the Countrywide mortgage issue that has dogged Dodd in recent weeks should be anything more than a “minute blip” on any national candidate’s resume.
As for talk of stripping Sen. Joseph Lieberman of his chairmanship, Blumenthal at first hesitated to answer the question. When pressed again, Blumenthal said he regards Lieberman “as a genuine, personal friend,” adding that he is “not going to issue a judgment.” He said that decision is up to leadership in the U.S. Senate.
Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz said Friday at the same press conference that she would be interested in the running for Attorney General or Governor, depending on what the landscape looks like.

What concerns me is that Richard Blumenthal, this supposed stickler in not tolerating any nonsense and corruption, was a staunch supporter of Hilary Clinton's run for presidency. Given my personal interest in the Old Saybrook scandal amongst the police, his support of Hilary Clinton scares me mightily.
I'm not commenting to make this a political debate but my feeling is that if Blumenthal's viewpoints resemble Clinton's in any way, I fear justice won't be done in Old Saybrook. Instead, these guys will get a slap on the wrist from Blumie and then all will be forgotten in glorious Old Saybrook.
Blumental also supports Chris Dodd which I consider to be questionable as well.

Time out. I thought Blumenthal was running for Governor. Now he wants a US Senate seat?
But whoops, that's right. He doesn't want anything unless it's handed to him...
Well, I'd support Dick to the hilt if he ran for Governor, but does it makes sense to send a 62 year old to the US Senate for a couple of vanity terms?
I say send 'em young, send Chris Murphy, (even if he hired that Liebercrat, Kenny Curran.)
And yes, I was the same person who spent/wasted $20 on www.draftdick.com. That back in 2005-06, when, if Dick had any balls, he would have rid us of Joe Lieberman (Rat-CT).

My feeling is that if he is of the same pedigree as Hilary, true justice won't be served in Old Saybrook. Instead, my feeling is that these guys will get a slap on the wrist from Blumie and all will be forgotten in glorious Old Saybrook.

Bummer, we forgot to ask about the appointment of a US Senate vacancy. If I remember correctly Dodd still has two years left in his term and the Republican governor is the only one with the ability to appoint a US Senate vacancy. Would she let Blumenthal move up to a senate seat?

"Would she let Blumenthal move up to a senate seat?"
Umm...not likely.
Which is a good reason for Obama to let Dodd stay in the Senate for two more years, so we can run a solid Democrat for the seat.

The Governor may appoint a US Senate replacement until the next November election. There would be a special election at that time.
This is different from US House Rep or Statewide office holder. In all the other cases there would have to be a special Election to fill the seat.
