Senate Minority Leader Louis DeLuca, R-Woodbury, refused to comment Monday afternoon on whether he would resign his position in the state Senate as a result of his guilty plea Monday morning.

At a press conference outside the Senate Republican caucus room Sen. John McKinney, R-Southport, tried to refocus the media’s attention to the business the legislature needs to address in the last three days of the session.

DeLuca said his primary concern is his family, but he can’t let his personal situation get in the way of his legislative responsibilities. “We owe it to our constituents to focus on the business at hand,” he said.

But both McKinney and DeLuca refused to entertain questions about DeLuca’s leadership position in the Senate and whether or not he would resign. DeLuca said he couldn’t comment further about the situation because he could be called as a witness in the federal government’s indictment of the Danbury trash hauler DeLuca went to for help.

So far Rep. Chris Caruso, D-Bridgeport and Sen. Edith Prague, D-Columbia, are the only legislators to call for DeLuca’s resignation.
