Senate Passes Bill; House Waits to Debate

The Connecticut General Assembly held a daylong special session Tuesday to fix the holes in its criminal justice system exposed by two parolees charged with the murder of a Cheshire mother and her two daughters six months ago.
The state Senate voted 15 to 21 against adopting this three strikes amendment, but voted unanimously on the underlying bill which included more than 20 changes to the current criminal justice system.
The House started debate on the bill around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Many have predicted the House session will last until early Wednesday morning.

It was pretty much a party line vote on the amendment, with the exception of three Democrats: Senators Gaffey, Doyle, and Hartley, who crossed over to vote in favor of it with the 12 Republicans including newcomer Robert Kane.
