Contributed photo A photo of a Connecticut flag being used as a drop cloth for a painting project at a state police barracks has led to an internal affairs investigation, according to Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection Commissioner Dora B. Schriro.

“This matter was brought to Colonel Meraviglia’s attention late last week and he referred it immediately to Professional Standards,” Schriro said in a statement. “This matter will be investigated fully. The flag is an important symbol of all for which our state stands.”

A source from the Connecticut State Police said Lt. Tim Madden, commanding officer of Troop D in Danielson, was spray painting parts from his personal lawnmower on the flag in the barracks garage last Wednesday evening.

Contacted by CTNewsJunkie Tuesday, Lt. Madden said he was not allowed to comment.
